A patient perspective on weight bias & Stigma whilst living with obesity, whilst stepping up the call to action on People-First Language.
To change the perception of obesity, let’s start by changing the images that represent it
Stigmatising images of people living with obesity are widely used in the media and beyond. These often include depictions of individuals eating unhealthy food, wearing clothes that don’t fit well, or focusing only on their bodies without showing their faces.
Such portrayals reinforce harmful stereotypes suggesting that people living with obesity lead unhealthy lifestyles, are lazy, unmotivated, or lack self-discipline.
We need to shift the narrative and change how the world sees and treats obesity with respect, empathy, and accuracy.
